Barbara E. Collins, age 84
Of rural Newton, IL passed away at 11:45 PM - Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Lakeland Rehab and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL. Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM – Monday, August 22, 2011 at Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Barbara was born December 29, 1926 in Kingston in the county of Surrey England the daughter of Elizabeth Newton and Roy William Raisbury. Barbara grew up in Slough Bucks near London with her mother and grandparents. After completing school she worked at Caley's Shoe Department. During World War II Barbara worked with the British Red Cross helping care for wounded soldiers as well as the Women's Land Army working the farms. She married John William Collins on February 28, 1948 in Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2004. Upon marriage she moved to the United States and joined her husband working on the farm. She was a member of the Latona Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and Bible School for many years. Barbara was a 4-H leader for 13 years, and was a member of the Red Hill Bantam Club showing her Bantam chickens at many area fairs and shows. Grandchildren-Tobey Galloway; Kathryn (Kenneth) Elmore; Jill (Adam) Schoonover; Christopher Collins; Clint (Jill) Knierim; Ashely (Jeremy) Grigg; Bryttinee Ward; Andrea Ward and Nick (Trisha) Compton. Great-Grandchildren- Taylor Galloway; Zoey Elmore; Claire Collins; Wynter Schoonover; Evan Knierim; Ella Knierim; Kaydence Grigg; Jack Compton; Mia Compton; Tiffany Elmore; Nichole Elmore and Haylee Shoonover. Great-Great Grandchildren- Gracie Hollis and Nevaeh Maginn. One sister Joan James of Oakham, England. 1 nephew, 1 niece, 4 great nieces and several cousins all of England also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandparents and a brother-in-law.
