Barbara Joan (Harris) Elzy, age 79
Of Edgewood, IL and formerly of Newton, IL passed away at 1:28 AM – Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 1:00 PM – Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Newton, IL. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. In loving memory of Barbara, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Barbara was born on February 10, 1935 in Iola, IL the daughter of Loren and Ethel (Wright) Rogers. She married Virgil Carl "Corky" Harris on June 12, 1950 and he preceded her in death on February 21, 1986. She later married Ralph E. "Red" Elzy on February 10, 1989 and
he preceded her in death on February 21, 2013.
Barbara retired as the head custodian for Effingham Unit 40 School District.
She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton.
She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, crafts, camping and an avid facebook fan.
Barbara is survived by:
6 Children – Dale (Sue) Harris of Newton, IL; Cheryl (Kevin) Mesnard of Edgewood, IL; Jim (Betty) Harris of Willow Hill, IL; Lynn Yocum of Edgewood, IL; Kenny (Ann) Harris of Effingham, IL and Jodi (Eddie Higgs) Harris of Mason, IL
Sister – Glenda Blair of Edgewood, IL
17 Grandchildren 41 Great Grandchildren 2 Great Great Grandchildren
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughters Mary Ann McCoy and Carol Lee Franklin; granddaughters Kristen Shamhart and Danielle Harris; great granddaughter Makenna Long and brothers George "Sonny" Rogers and Frederick "Bud" Rogers.
