Berdina Marie Shelly, age 77
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 6:48 AM - Sunday, June 7, 2015 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with Rev. Stephen Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Friday, June 12, 2015 at the funeral home. In loving memory of Berdina, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Berdina was born on May 29, 1938 in Sullivan, IL to Harold Wesley and Lela Mae (Lourash) Brown. She married Robert E. Shumard on June 19, 1955. She later married John B. Shelly on June 28, 1970 and he preceded her in death on February 2, 1987.
Berdina was employed at United Technologies from 1973 until it closed. She later worked at The Country Seed House Antique Mall before retiring. Berdina loved playing cards, reading, crocheting and doing flower arrangements.
She is survived by her four daughters Rebecca (Ed) Kish of Finger, TN; Bonnie (Charles) Painter of Newton, IL; Barbara (Dan) Butterson of Dieterich, IL; and Brenda (Eric) Dearing of Cutler, IL. Brothers - Bob (Clara) Brown of Watson, IL and Ed (Angie) Brown of Beecher City, IL. Sisters - Lois Nippe of DuQuoin, IL and Jerri (Dick) Hutton of Stewardson, IL. Sister-in-laws - Janie Shelly of Newton, IL and Kathy Brown of Stewardson, IL. 18 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren with one due in September and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 2 infant sons - Ronnie Shumard and Billy Shumard. Siblings - Betty Bledsoe, Don Brown Sr., and Doris Schneider; special friend Bob Jayne; and 2 grandchildren.
