Bernard J. "Bernie" Miller, age 88
Of Newton, IL passed away at 6:10 AM – Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Aspen Creek in Effingham, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Saturday, June 8, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, IL with Fr. Al Kemme and Deacon Larry Miller celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, IL with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the mass with 4th degree Knights of Columbus honor guard. In loving memory of Bernie, memorials may be made to the Clay County Hospice or Alzheimer's Research. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL.

Bernard J. better known as "Bernie" was born on April 22, 1925 in Jasper County, IL the son of John and Edith (Kerner) Miller. He married Marjorie Rife on May 1, 1945 and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2004.
Bernie served his country in the United States Army during WW II.
Bernie and his brother Ralph opened Miller Brothers Texaco Station 1954 and they operated the business for over 30 years.
Bernie was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton;
4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.
Bernie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed gardening.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Maurice, Ed, Roscoe and a sister Sarah Miller.
