Mrs. Betty Jean Ochs, age 87

Mrs. Betty Jean Ochs, age 87, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 4:15 PM - Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Helia Healthcare in Olney, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Monday, September 18, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst and Fr. Robert Spriggs.  Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ste. Marie, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 PM – Sunday, September 17, 2017, and ½ hour before mass in church.  In loving memory of Betty, memorials may be made to the Master's Hands 104 S. Van Buren Street Newton, Illinois 62448 or St. Mary's Church 112 Embarras Street Ste. Marie, Illinois 62459.  Arrangements are under care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Betty was born on July 19, 1930, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of William and Anna (Deck) Piercefield.  She married Wilmer "Hoover" Ochs on October 2, 1946, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1976.

Betty was a farmer's wife and loving mother.  She worked alongside her husband on the farm and continued farming with her son after Hoover's passing.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.  She was also a member of the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932 Ladies Auxiliary.

Betty enjoyed being outdoors, farming, tending to her yard and doing cross stitch.

Betty is survived by:
Children – Marie (John) Beal of Olney, Illinois; Stephen Ochs of Newton, Illinois; Shelia (Tom) Short of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Melvarose Ochs of Effingham, Illinois.  Grandchildren – Brandon (Amy) Short, Tina (Tod) Pearcy, Tonya Short, Craig (Jennifer) Short, Andrew (Katrina) Short and Donald Short
11 Great Grandchildren
Special caregiver – Kitty Beasley of Oblong, Illinois

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Katherine Ochs, brother Alfred Piercefield and 2 great grandchildren.
