Bradley D. Ghast, age 60

Bradley D. Ghast, age 60, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:18 PM – Saturday, August 18, 2018, at his home.

Funeral mass celebrating Brad's life will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Thursday, August 23, 2018, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the church and ½ hour before the mass.  In loving memory of Brad, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Church.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Bradley better known as "Brad" was born on June 30, 1958, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Thomas Ghast and Jean (Hall) Ghast.  He married Sharon Bolander on February 27, 1981, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.

Brad worked for Ameren Illinois for over 35 years at Newton Power Station and Mt. Vernon.

Brad was also a local business owner and supporter of his community.  He built and was co-owner of the Riverside Recreation batting cages and miniature golf at Peterson Park in Newton.

Brad was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton Masonic Lodge #216 and Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, playing golf, playing cards and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Brad was always there to support his family and never missed a school activity of his children and was a softball coach for many years.

Brad is survived by:

Wife of 37 years – Sharon Ghast of Newton, Illinois

Children – Clint (Laura) Ghast of Teutopolis, Illinois and Megan (Roger) Sugrue of Lake Zurich, Illinois

Grandchildren – Alex Ghast, Jackson Ghast, William Ghast, Samuel Ghast, Evan Sugrue and Owen Sugrue

Brothers – Scott (Laura) Ghast of Newton, Illinois and Craig (Brenda) Ghast of Newton, Illinois

Sister – Stacey Ghast of Newton, Illinois

Mother-in-law – Bernice Bolander of Newton, Illinois

Brad was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Harold Bolander.
