Carl Wayne Lewis, age 84

Carl Wayne Lewis of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 PM – Saturday, December 26, 2015, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with Rick Britton officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the funeral home. In loving memory of Carl, memorials may be made to the Plainfield Church.
Carl was born on April 3, 1931, in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Levi and Gracie Mae (McKimmey) Lewis. He married Gladys Marie Foster on December 24, 1949 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 1988. He later married Mary Beatrice Bower on September 19, 1999 and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2001.
Carl served his country in the United States Army in the Korean conflict from April 29, 1952 until his honorable discharge on April 9, 1954.
Carl owned and operated Lewis Ford Tractor Sales in Greenup and Effingham from 1968 until 1978. In 1986, along with his sons he started Lewis Transportation, Inc.
Carl was a member of the Plainfield Church in Rose Hill, Illinois; Newton VFW Post #7537 and the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
Carl is survived by: Son – Bruce (Beverly) Lewis of Newton, Illinois Daughter-in-Law – Sharon Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona Grandchidren – Scott (Kelly) Lewis; Brent (Dana) Lewis; Blair (Mark) Dellaquila and Brittany (fiancé Michael Turbyfill) Lewis and Brad Will 8 Great Grandchildren 3 Great Great Grandchildren
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wives, son Douglas Lewis, granddaughter Brandy Lewis Will; brothers Don and Kenny Lewis and sisters Loretta Rogers, Thelma Osborn and Sharon Kay Wagner.
