Carolyn A. Schmitt

Carolyn A. Schmitt, age 95, of Olney, Illinois, passed away at 2:32 PM – Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.

Carolyn was born on February 13, 1928, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Clark E. and Jennie (Mowrer) Stoltz.  She married Joseph H. Schmitt Jr. on January 12, 1952, in Wendelin, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1992.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She worked hard on the family farm until they retired from farming in 1975.  Carolyn and Joe then moved to Olney, where she was the Office Manager for H&R Block for over 20 years.

Carolyn as also a world traveler, taking many trips with sister Guinevere and occasionally their sister Shirley would accompany them.

Carolyn is survived by her son Kelly (Karen McGee) Schmitt of Springfield, Vermont; and daughter Gail (Lee) Greathouse of Albion, Illinois.  Grandchildren, Joseph Greathouse, Jonathan Schmitt, Sarah Schmitt, Erin Boucher, Rebecca Schmitt, and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother Henry (Barbara) Stoltz of Russellville, Arkansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Clifford Schmitt, sisters; Guinevere Hessen, and Shirley Stout, brothers; Warren Stoltz, Jack Stoltz, and Jim Stoltz.
