Carolyn J. (Massey) Woods, age 73

Carolyn J. (Massey) Woods, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:24 AM - Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at her home.

Funeral services celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at 2:00 PM – Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois, with Rev. Steve Willis officiating.  Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. There will be no visitation.  In loving memory of Carolyn, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund PO Box 333 Newton, Illinois 62448.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Carolyn was born on December 24, 1942, in rural Bogota, Illinois, the daughter of Eugene and Josephine (Rauch) Massey.  She married her high school sweetheart Gilbert "Gib" Woods on September 5, 1961, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and they just recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Carolyn was a hairdresser for over 47 years.  She was a very active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.  She enjoyed playing golf, cards, raising flowers, sewing and writing poetry.

Husband of 55 years – Gib Woods of Newton, Illinois

Children – Jeanne L. (Andy) Shull of Hidalgo, Illinois

Dr. Ronald K. (Laurel) Woods of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin

Grandchildren – Tyler (Kashtyn) Shull, Dr. Caleb (Emily) Shull, Jahida (Terry) Neal, Abby Shull, Dulce Shull, Tanner Shull, Axl Woods and Josie Woods.

Great Grandchildren – Oliver Shull, Case Shull, Brooklyn Shull, Natalie Shull, David Shull, Isiah Neal, Jacob Neal and Aubrey Shull.

Sisters – Rita Koontz of Newton, Illinois and Marietta Kerner of Ypsilanti, Michigan

Brothers – Kieth (Marilyn) Massey of DuBois, Indiana

Robert (Lois) Massey of Newton, Illinois

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Patrick, Max and Jerry Massey .
