Cathy Lynn Schmidt, age 60, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:21 AM – Friday, December 12, 2025, at HSHS Saint Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

F uneral Services will be held at 11:00 AM- Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with Rick Britton officiating.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  In loving memory of Cathy, memorials may be made to Saved by Grace Animal Rescue.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.

Cathy was born on June 15, 1965, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Irl and Juanita (Cole) Franke.  She graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1983.  Cathy was united in marriage to Gary Schmidt on August 17, 1991, at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois.

Cathy was a loving wife and mother.  Many in the community knew her for her friendly smile and dedication to the customers through her years at work at Pizza Hut and most recently at Casey's in Newton, Illinois.  She enjoyed spending time with her family.  Summers she could be found swimming in her pool listening to the radio.  Inside she enjoyed creating art through coloring, with her cat Bella by her side.

Husband of 34 years - Gary Schmidt of Newton, Illinois

Children - Nathan (KC) Schmidt and Caitlyn Schmidt both of Newton, Illinois

Mother-in-law – Florence Schmidt of Newton, Illinois

Step-brother - Franke Lamar of Robinson, Illinois

Sister-In-laws and Brother-in-laws - Connie (Devin) Haynes of Newton, Illinois; David (Beth) Schmidt of Effingham, Illinois; Ed (Rosa) Schmidt of Dieterich, Illinois and Linda (Brian) Schreacke of Quincy, Illinois.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tommy Wilson and father-in-law Orville "Archie" Schmidt.
