Clara was born on December 9, 1945, on Pigtail Alley in Wendelin, Illinois, the daughter of George Francis and Hermenia Elizabeth (Gumble) Hinterscher. She attended Holy Cross Grade School in Wendelin and graduated from Noble High School with the Class of 1964. She then attended Mattoon School of Nursing and graduated with the Class of 1966. On July 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Robert Wilson, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois.

Clara was Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She started her career working at Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and Richland Memorial Hospital. She took time away from being a nurse to take care of her children when they were little. She returned to nursing and retired from Cumberland Nursing Center in 2000, after 20 years of service. In 1998, Clara was honored by the Long-Term Care Nurses Association with an award as the Nurse of the Year for her dedication and care for her patients.

Clara was strong in her faith and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Her willingness to help in her community was a testament of love for others. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped with various projects, including sewing the curtains for the Cumberland Drama program that are still used today.
