Obituary

Mr. Clemon Effland, age 92

Mr. Clemon Effland, of Terre Haute, Indiana, and formerly of Marshall, Illinois, passed away at 10:17 PM - Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Carle Foundation in Urbana, Illinois.

Clemon was born at home in Avon, Illinois, on June 22, 1924. Clemon was the son of Samuel Effland and Ada (Carpenter) Effland.  He married Lois Louise Hilton on August 17,1947 in Avon, Illinois.  He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lois who resides in Terre Haute, IN; their six children, Marvin Effland and wife Christy of Semi Valley, CA, Darlene Eirhart and husband Ted of Honolulu, HI, Shirley Skaggs and husband Greg of Champaign, IL, Sandy Williams and husband JD of Mattoon, IL, Marilyn Patton and husband Bill of Taylorville, IL, Renee Elkin and husband Jeff of Terre Haute, IN. 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.  Clem grew up on a farm and started his married life with Lois there too.  They quickly were introduced to the truth from the Bible and dedicated their lives to serving Jehovah.  So they stopped sowing seeds on the farm and started sowing seeds in a different type of field.  Which turned out to be his favorite, the ministry!  He and Lois together had many years of full time service and he had 34 of his own.  He enjoyed carpentry, he was a licensed electrician, his favorite hobby, he said, was gardening, and when he wanted to relax he requested popcorn, Dr Pepper, ice cream and Lawrence Welk.  A man of few words, but wise ones when spoken.  "Kids need to be kids"  "The best thing after a long day of work, was pulling up to a big house that you knew was full of your kids"  "If you really need something, and can afford it, buy the best you can afford, and pay cash" "obeying Jehovah is not always easy but it is always best".  His family felt the text for July 10th was so fitting for Clem, it read, "The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life" John 11:25.
