Cletus Francis Zumbahlen, age 80
Of Dieterich, Illinois passed away at 9:05 AM - Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM - Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bishop Creek rural Dieterich, Illinois with Fr. Joseph Carlos, OFM celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois with full military rites by the Dieterich American Legion Post #628. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM - Sunday, October 25, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Cletus, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.
Cletus was born on October 12, 1935, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the son of Edward and Emma (Vahling) Zumbahlen. Cletus married Marilyn Dhom of Newton, Illinois on September 27, 1958 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.
Cletus was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Dieterich American Legion Post #628, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665 and a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
Cletus was a veteran and served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956.
Cletus enjoyed playing his guitar, visiting with friends, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Cletus is survived by his wife of 57 years - Marilyn Zumbahlen of Dieterich, Illinois. 7 children Steven (Linda) Zumbahlen, Brenda (Wayne) Pruemer, Michelle (Keith) Kuhl and Kent (Cindy) Zumbahlen all of Dieterich, Illinois; Julie (Gary) Flach of Montrose, Illinois; Sandra (Matthew) Mitchell of Newton, Illinois and Stephanie (Dan) Shadle, of Dieterich, Illinois. 23 Grandchildren - Lance (Maria) Zumbahlen, Brock (Ashley) Zumbahlen, Brittany Zumbahlen, Mitch (Nikki) Pruemer, Jay (Kim) Pruemer, Whitney (Clayton) Steffen, and Ryan Pruemer, Blake, Olivia, Brandon, Evan, and Derek Kuhl, Nathan (Whitney) Zumbahlen, Kylie Zumbahlen, Seth, Hunter, and Devin Flach, Mabry and Sienna Mitchell, Anna, Braden, and Malia Shadle. 8 Great-grandchildren – Henry Zumbahlen, Asher and Kelton Pruemer, Isabella and Coye Pruemer, Austin and Caroline Zumbahlen, Ryerson Zumbahlen. Brother-Elmer (Elaine) Zumbahlen, Sisters - Clara Brummer, Rosemary Bergbower, Marian Weishaar, Estella (Richard) Deters, Marie Dust, Christine (Donald) Litzelman, and Irene Correll. Sister-in-laws – Marilyn Zumbahlen, Theresa Zumbahlen, and Sandra Zumbahlen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Michael Shadle; brothers - Arthur Zumbahlen, Vincent Zumbahlen, Sylvester Zumbahlen, and Leonard Zumbahlen; brother-in-laws – Sylvester Brummer, Ralphael Bergbower, Vincent Weishaar, and Nicholas Dust.
