Obituary

D.A. "Wink" Winkler, age 84
of Dieterich, Illinois passed away at 5:42 PM – Thursday, February 19, 2015
at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Wink's life will be held at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Dieterich, Illinois with Pastor Stephen Gillet officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois with full military rites provided by Dieterich Post #628 American Legion. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Monday, February 23, 2015 at the church. In loving memory of Wink, memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church or Dieterich Schools Education Foundation. D.A. better known as "Wink" was born on July 8, 1930 in Indianola, Illinois the son of Albion and Hortense (Bandy) Winkler. He married Marjorie Lois Dent on February 7, 1953 in Mattoon, Illinois and she preceded him in death March 27, 2013.
D.A. served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
D.A. was a high school math teacher and taught at Dieterich, Farina - LaGrove, Martinsville, Mattoon and retired after many years of teaching.
D.A. was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church; Charter member of Dieterich Ruritan Club; Dieterich Post # 628 American Legion; Dieterich Fire Department and the Dieterich Community Development Corporation.
D.A. coached cross country, track, baseball, girls basketball and boys basketball.
He was a member of the
Dieterich Hall of Fame.
D.A. is survived by:
Children – Tina (Thomas) Tromiczak of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey
David (Brenda) Winkler of Effingham, Illinois
Lisa (Brad) Bushue of Effingham, Illinois
Grandchildren – Daniel (Camille) Winkler, Kristen Winkler (fiancé Kenneth Flood), Hailey Bushue and
Jacob Bushue
Brother – Deane (Nita) Winkler of Indianola, Illinois
Brother-in-Law – Dale Downs of Charleston, Illinois

D.A. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Jack and Jeane Winkler and
a sister Lois Ann Downs.
