Darwin Charles, age 53, of Olney, passed away at 7:46 AM on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15 from 6-8 PM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Graveside funeral service will be at 11 AM at Green Hill Cemetery in Noble. Pastor Tim Bursott and Richland County Veterans' Association will be officiating.

Darwin was born on July 16, 1962 in Olney, the son of James "Jim" Allen and Mary Jane (Burgin) Charles.

He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during Desert Storm. He worked at Wal-Mart as an assistant manager. He was a member of Christian Church in Noble. He was a member of the American Legion Post #30. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Darwin is survived by his parents James "Jim" Allen and Mary Jane Charles; fiancé Connie Hornug of Olney; step-son, Jacob Scaturro and wife Morgan of Olney; 3 brothers, Douglas Charles of Olney, Dannie Charles of Clay City, Dawyane Charles and wife Fllena of Olney; sister, Darla Charles Williams and husband Paul of Olney; 3 uncles, Bill Burgin of Champaign-Urbana, Steve Charles of Evansville, and especially close uncle Ronald Burgin of Olney; aunt Trecia Green of Salem; granddaughter Isabella Rose Scatturo; very special niece Lilyan Fehrenbacher and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edgar and Annie Charles, maternal grandparents Virgil "Shug" and Lucille Burgin, great-nephew Waylin David Williams.

Memorials can be sent to the funeral home to help the family with final expenses in memory of Darwin Charles.
