David Leon Paul, age 75

April 17, 1944 – March 17, 2020

David Leon Paul, age 75, of West Liberty, Illinois passed away at 3:00 PM – Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at his home.

Private family services celebrating David's life will be held.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com .

David was born on April 17, 1944 in St. Francisville, Illinois, the son of Leo F. and Mary F. (Selby) Paul.  He married Shirley Kay Harris on April 27, 2002, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2012.

David served his county in the United States Army Reserve from August 26, 1965, till January 13, 1966.

David worked as a police officer for several years and retired from Parrish Carpet in Mattoon, Illinois.

David enjoyed playing guitar, dancing, bowling and playing tennis.  He loved the outdoors and spending time hunting and fishing.

David is survived by:

2 Children - Erika (Butch) Davis of Charleston, Illinois and Justin (Pamela) Paul of Waukesha, Wisconsin

Son-in-law- Ray Patterson of West Liberty, Illinois

Brother - Terry (Marsha) Paul of Newton, Illinois

Grandchildren - Amber Davis, Sean Paul and Nicholas Paul

Great grandchildren - Peyton Davis and Carl Liam Hunt

David was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Susan Patterson, brother Gary Paul and granddaughter Megan Davis.
