Deane Richard Ochs, age 79, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:53 PM – Monday, September 2, 2024, at Helia Health Care in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM- Friday, September 6, 2024, at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin, Illinois with military honors provided by the Jasper post # 20 American Legion. In the loving memory of Deane, memorials may be made to the Meyer Funeral Home, 307 West Jourdan Street, Newton, Illinois 62448. Arrangements are in the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.
Deane was born on July 2, 1945, the son of Robert and Stella (Bigard) Ochs. He graduated from Newton Community High School with the class of 1963.
Deane proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He married Carol Ann Buerster on October 13, 1966, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois. Carol preceded him in death on December 7, 2003.
Deane retired from farming after many years as a livestock and grain farmer. After retiring from the farm, he worked at Effingham Auto. He once held his pilot's license for a single engine aircraft.
Deane was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois, and the VFW in Newton, Illinois.
Deane is survived by-
Children- Dawn (Jay) Akes of Evansville, Indiana; Craig (Jody) Ochs of Newton, Illinois; Christopher (Christina) Ochs of Newton, Illinois and Eric (Tammy) Ochs of Newton, Illinois.
Grandchildren- Beverly, Rosa, Craig, Bridget, Sarah, Kelsey, Drake, Thomas, Jacob, Lucas, Hayli and Trenton
Sister- Diane Lybarger of Sainte Marie, Illinois
16 Great grandchildren
Deane was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Darrell Ochs.
