Obituary
Don W. Ward, age 91
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 9:35 PM – Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Don's life will be held at 11:00 AM – Friday, May 1, 2015 at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the services at the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Don was born on November 17, 1923 the son of Ethelbert and Maurine D. (Greeson) Ward. He married Marie Babbs on June 7, 1947 at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois.
Don served his country in the United States Navy as a Pilot serving from 1942 until 1945.
Don owned Don Ward Insurance Agency in Newton, Illinois for over 40 years. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, Life member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #216 and was a Shriner.
Don is survived by:
Wife of 67 years – Marie Ward of Newton, Illinois
Son – Bruce (Cindy) Ward of Crossville, Tennessee
Daughter – Sheryl Dyer (Renee Chevalier) of Springfield, Illinois
Grandchildren – Brody Dyer of West Chester, Ohio, Bert Ward of Raleigh, North Carolina and Stacy (Matt) Burris of Springfield, Illinois
Sister – Sally Romack of Plainfield, Indiana
Several nieces and nephews also survive
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Bert and Wanda Ward.
