Obituary
Donald E. Koontz, age 88
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 12:45 AM - Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the
Newton Rest Haven in Newton, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Donald's life will be held at 11:00 AM – Saturday,
December 20, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with Rev. Stephen Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois with
full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion.
Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service.
In loving memory of Donald, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Donald was born on February 5, 1926 in Newton, Illinois the son of Winfield and Bertha (Resch) Koontz. He married Rita Massey on December 30, 1950 in Mattoon, Illinois and she survives.
Donald served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Donald was a lineman for Norris Electric in Newton and CIPS and retired after 35 years of service.
Donald was a life member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed camping and being outdoors.
Donald is survived by:
Wife of 63 years – Rita Koontz of Newton, Illinois
Sisters – Jean Addis of Newton, Illinois
Joann (Lowell) Wilson of Newton, Illinois
Linda (Larry) Warfel of Casey, Illinois
Sister-in-law – Maxine Koontz – Robinson, Illinois
Several nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws also survive.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob Koontz.
