Obituary

Doris J. Snider, age 82, of Dundas, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at her home. Doris was born on May 18, 1932, in Richland County; the daughter of William and Amanda Elizabeth (Pierce) King. She later married Billy Ray Snider on August 30, 1953 at Mt. Gilead Church, in Olney.

Doris worked at Roberts Insurance Agency, owned and operated the Dairy Bar in Noble, worked in the Dietary Department at Richland Memorial Hospital, and volunteered and then worked at SWAN (Stop Woman Abuse Now) as an executive assistant, until her retirement.

Doris held a fervent passion for knowing Christ and making Him known to others. In her early teens, Doris and her parents helped found the first Southern Baptist Church in Mattoon, Illinois. She delighted in tracking their growth and progress throughout the years. Doris was a member of Olney Southern Baptist Church and Newton Southern Baptist Church. She attended Grace Evangelical Church and was a charter member of Cornerstone Community Church, in Noble. Doris was part of the Women's Missionary Union, served on the Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief Team, served on many committees, and had multiple leadership roles with Illinois Baptists on local, associational and state levels. She also enjoyed taking mission trips through the Southern Baptist Convention. Doris delighted in entertaining people in her home and hosted many church parties. She loved people, animals, and especially laughing. She celebrated every day to its fullest.

Doris is sadly missed by her family, friends, partners in Christ, and all who knew her. Doris is survived by her son Larry D. Snider, of Dundas, and daughter Rose Y. Snider, of Indianapolis. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Snider; parents, William and Amanda Elizabeth King; and infant brother Donald Dean King.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, April 12 at 2:00 PM at Grace Evangelical Church in Olney. Memorials can be sent in memory of Doris Snider to a Christian Missionary of the donor's choice.
