Obituary

Dorothy Chesnut, age 94 Of Newton, IL passed away at 6:00 AM –Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur, IL.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM - Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Burial will be in the Hankins Cemetery in Smallwood Township, Jasper County, IL. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. In loving memory of Dorothy, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the Baptist Children's Home. The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.blakefh.com.
Dorothy Lucille Katherine Chesnut was born on April 12, 1919 in Buckley, Illinois the daughter of John and Ethel (Daniel) Fallert. She was the only daughter of six children. Dorothy attended Newton Community High School where she was one of the last surviving members of the 1937 graduation class. Dorothy married Morton (Scotty) Chesnut on April 22, 1939 in Henderson, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1990.
Alongside Scotty, she was a cattle and grain farmer in Jasper County, IL her entire married life. She also worked at the Red & White Grocery Store, Ettlebrick Shoe Factory, and E.R. Moore Garment Factory. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, crocheting and many other handicrafts. Her beautiful hand work graces all of her children's homes. Dorothy was a bible scholar who taught Sunday School and Bible Study classes for many years. She was a member of the Smallwood Home Extension Club and the First Baptist Church of Newton.
Dorothy was a beautiful lady who loved her family. Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children - Constance (Martin) Gorrell of Decatur, IL Beverly (Larry "Red") Matson of Newton, IL Dennis (Carolyn) Chesnut of Lone Jack, MO And Rebecca Fehrenbacher of Decatur, IL 11 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Step-great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren Several nieces and nephews also survive
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson Tommy Gorrell, 5 brothers Paul, Marion, Charles, Walter and Sherman Fallert and her special friend Merrill Brown.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Imboden Creek Living Center. The nurses and CNA's were so caring to Mother while living and during her departing.
