Dorothy Ellen Whitaker, age 86, of Marion, Illinois and formerly of Herrin and Eldorado, Illinois, passed away at 9:11 AM on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Charleston Rehab and Nursing in Charleston, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the County Line Cemetery near Creal Springs, Illinois. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery at 1:30 for a time of visitation before the service. In loving memory of Dorothy, memorials may be made to the Meyer Funeral Home, 307 West Jourdan Street, Newton, Illinois 62448. Dorothy was born on June 26, 1939, in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter Rev Arlie Thomas and Dorothy Maxine (Wheeler) Whitaker. She worked as a telephone operator for GTE for several years.

Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Zeiger, Illinois. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Several Great Grandchildren also survive

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, son and daughter-in-law John and Angila Veach, daughter Lynn Veach, daughter-in-law Tina Veach and a sister Doris Whitaker.
