Edward Eugene "Ed" Dhom, age 78, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:12 PM – Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the New St. Peter Cemetery east of Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the church. There will also be visitation 9:30 – 10:00 AM – Wednesday, before the mass in church. In loving memory of Edward, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund in Newton, Illinois. Edward better known as Ed, was born on February 11, 1941, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Cornelius and Florence Marie (Schafer) Dhom. He married Judy Jenkins on February 24, 1959, in Providence, Kentucky.
Ed was a lifelong farmer and worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 45 years. He also worked the oil field for several years, pumping wells.
Ed was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, and the Knights of Columbus #1704.
Ed is survived by - Wife of 60 years - Judy Dhom of Newton, Illinois
Children - Wayne (Carol) Dhom of Mattoon, Illinois and Randy (Sara) Dhom of Mahomet, Illinois
Grandchildren - Erica (Devin) Moses, Dylan (Crystal) Dhom, Layla Dhom, Alexa Dhom, Mariah Dhom and Lucas Dhom
Great-Grandchildren - Grace Moses, Morgan Moses, Caroline Moses, Lauren Dhom and Hailey Dhom
Sisters - Mary Evelyn (Charles) Dhom of Newton, Illinois, Rose (Harry) Orr of Salem, Illinois and Sue (Tony) Sparks of Newton, Illinois
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald Dhom, Henry Dhom and Thomas Dhom,
sister Margaret Cunefare, father and mother-in-law Glen and Marjorie Jenkins.
