Ellen Rose Dewhirst, age 86
Of Newton, IL passed away at 11:15 AM –Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM – Friday, February 21, 2014 at
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass.
Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Newton, IL.
Visitation will be held 10:30-11:30 AM – Friday, February 21, 2014 at the church. In loving memory of Rose,
memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Catholic School.
Arrangements are in the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL.

Ellen Rose was born on August 23, 1927 in Malta, IL the daughter of Leo and Cecilia (Barr) Henry.
She was raised in Dekalb County, Illinois one of eight children.
After becoming a registered nurse, Rose met Clifford B. Dewhirst. They married on February 2, 1952 in Elgin, IL and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2007.
Rose worked until retirement in nursing, working at Richland Memorial Hospital and Newton Central Grade School. In retirement she and Clifford purchased a NAPA store in Kirkland, IL
Rose enjoyed crafts such as painting and quilting. She also frequently wrote poetry for family and friends.
She enjoyed people and hosting gatherings for family and friends. Rose enjoyed documenting family gatherings with photographs.
Rose was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Daughter- Carole Roberts of McLeansboro, IL
Granddaughter- Stephanie (Bill) Gray of Evansville, IN
3 Great-Granddaughters- Kelcy, Hunter and Reagan
Sisters- Vera Anderson of Sycamore, IL and Suzanne Henry of Denver, CO
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Vincent Dewhirst, Curt Dewhirst, son-in-law Wayne Roberts, grandson Matthew Roberts and siblings Donald Henry, Eugene "Mike" Henry, Dale Henry, Raymond Henry and Rita Covert.
