Eugene O. Wagner age 91

Of Newton, IL passed away at 8:06 PM – Saturday, March 14, 2015 at
HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services celebrating Eugene's life will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, MARCH 21, 2015 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Brad Harper officiating. Entombment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. In loving memory of Eugene, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund P.O. Box 333 Newton, IL 62448 or the American Diabetes Association.

Eugene better known as Gene, was born on June 24, 1923 in Newton, Illinois the son of Raymond and Ethyl (Wakefield) Wagner, Sr. He married Mary Spannagel on February 16, 1949 in Olney, Illinois.
Gene was a graduate of Newton Community High School in the class of 1942. Gene was a farmer and had worked as a guard at Newton Power station and worked as a milk tester.
He owned and operated Grandview Sales and Service for several years.
Gene was a member of the First Christian Church and a former member of the Jasper County Pork Producers. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, wood working and keeping his lawn well groomed. Gene's greatest joy was his family and spending time with them.
Gene is survived by:
Wife of 66 years – Mary Wagner of Newton, Illinois
8 Children – Janet Waggle of Newton, Illinois; Bob (Jeanne) Wagner of Newton, Illinois; Betty (Steve) Rudolphi of Watson, Illinois; Jim (Kathy) Wagner of Newton, Illinois; Susan Dowland of Charlotte, North Carolina; Joan (Lindell) Galloway of Newton, Illinois; Don Wagner of Newton, Illinois and Tom (Colleen) Wagner of Montrose, Illinois
20 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren
Sister – Louise McClane of Newton, Illinois
Brothers – John Dale (Sharon) Wagner of Newton, Illinois and
Melvin Wagner of Champaign, Illinois

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Christopher Wagner, son-in-law Bill Dowland, sister Evon Stapp and brothers Gerald Wagner and Raymond Wagner, Jr.
