Mrs. Eunice D. (Stortzum) Lewis, age 75
Of Dieterich, IL passed away at 1:21 AM - Monday, January 16, 2012 at her home. A very aggressive lung cancer attacked her body and took her very quickly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dieterich, IL with Pastor Gary Fortkamp officiating. Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In loving memory of Eunice, memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice. The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.blakefh.com.
Eunice was born on April 9, 1936 in Lucas Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Gottlieb and Ida (Schmidt) Stortzum. She married Albert G. Lewis on September 13, 1952 in Dieterich. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2000.
She was co-owner of K & A Lewis Construction, Inc of Dieterich and a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Grace's Ladies Aid. She loved her family with her whole heart and cherished most the memories that she made with each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has always enjoyed gardening, crafting and reading. She was an avid Dieterich Movin' Maroons and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Eunice was the most wonderful mother to her four children; Deborah (David, deceased) Tarr of Wheeler, Kenneth (Martha) of Charleston, Keith (Joyce) of Dieterich, Gailene (Kent) Einhorn of Dieterich; grandchildren Brian (Denise) Tarr, Matthew (Amy) Tarr, Jeffrey (Sara) Tarr, Stephanie Smith, Bridget (Michael) Jones, Jill (Jerry) Shuemaker, Lyndsey (Mitch) Finn, Andrew Lewis, Dylan Einhorn, Garrett Einhorn, Austin Einhorn, Kaden Einhorn; great grandchildren Colten & Mitchell Tarr, DavaLynn & Wade Tarr, Alexandria Tarr, Carson Jones, Caidance & Laurelynn Shuemaker, Kallie & Mason Finn.
She is also survived by brothers; Ruben (Julie) Stortzum of Villa Park, IL and Arno Stortzum of Effingham; sister in law and best friend Lucille (Floyd) Barlow of Dieterich; sister in law Marilyn Koester and Marie (Eugene) Meyer both of Dieterich, Mildred Bonnell of Monticello, .
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, son in law David Tarr and grandchildren Bradley Tarr and Christina Lewis.
