May 6, 1930 – July 7, 2016
Evelyn (Runyon) Ahlfield, age 86 of Olney, went to be with the Lord at 5:25 PM on Thursday, July 22, 2016 at Helia Healthcare in Olney. She lived a life of service and made a lot of lives better for having been there.
Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 9:30 AM. There is no visitation prior to service. Pastor Beau Brown and David McNabb will be officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Evelyn was born May 6, 1930, in Olney, the daughter of Oscar E. and Alice Lucinda (Knakmas) Runyon. She later married James "Jim" Ahlfield in January 1951 in Kankakee. He survives.
She worked for the Illinois Department of Labor in the unemployment office. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olney. She loved her grandchildren, enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading especially the book Heaven is for Real. She also enjoyed volunteering with mission work with her church. She volunteered at Red Bird Mission in Appalachia, Kentucky, Sheldon Jackson College in Alaska, Heiffer Project International in Arkansas and while there managed the international distribution system. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by Jim Ahlfield of Olney; 2 sons, Michael Wayne Ahlfield and wife Tonya of Ferdinand, IN, Daniel Joseph Ahlfield and wife Janice of Forrest Lake, MN; 2 daughters, Dorothy Lou House and husband David of Golden, CO and Margaret Sue "Peggy" Souchek and husband Paul David of Woodstock; 2 brothers, Charles Eugene Runyon and wife Thelma of CA and Donald Ray Runyon and wife Shelby of Olney; 12 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Alice Runyon, brothers Richard and Leo Runyon, sister Rosie Laughlin, son Doug Ahlfield, and parents-in-law Edward and Harriett (Knakmuhs) Ahlfield.
Memorials can be sent to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois in memory of Evelyn (Runyon) Ahlfield.
