Evelyn Rose Helmink, age 85

Evelyn Rose Helmink, age 85, of Montrose, Illinois, passed away at 10:30 PM - Saturday, March 02, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Friday, March 08, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois, with Fr. Bill Rooney celebrating mass.  Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Island Gove, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Thursday, March 07, 2019, at the church, with a prayer service at 5:30 PM.  In loving memory of Evelyn, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund PO Box 333 Newton, Illinois 62448. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.

Evelyn was born on March 19, 1933, on the family farm in rural Gila, Illinois, the daughter of Claude and Rosa (Newlin) Griffith.  She married Charles Helmink on November 03, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Gove, Illinois, and he survives.

Evelyn was homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and sister.  She was also a caretaker for her family.

Evelyn was a member of the St. Isidore Parish –St. Joseph Catholic Church and the ladies sodality.  She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, her pets and spending time with her grandchildren.

Husband of 62 years – Charles Helmink of Montrose, Illinois

Children – Sharon Taylor of Montrose, Illinois; Ron (Jo Ellen) Helmink of Montrose, Illinois; Nancy (Troy) Smith of Newton, Illinois; Carolyn Helmink of Gila, Illinois and Dave Helmink of Montrose, Illinois

Grandchildren – Jeremy Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Chuck Taylor (special friend Agnes), Kayla Taylor (fiancé Simon Schneider), Jonathan (Becky) Helmink, Deb (Rob) Connell, Theresa (Joe) Fehrenbacher, Beth Helmink (special friend Dustin Parde), Angela Helmink, Kathryn Helmink, Brandon Smith (special friend Heather)

Great Grandchildren – Christian Parde, Brittany Helmink, Macy Helmink and Clara Fehrenbacher

Sister – Ruth (Cedric) Wright of Dieterich, Illinois

Sisters-in-law – Reba Griffith of Newton, Illinois and Sharon Rae Helmink of Montrose, Illinois

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Earl Griffith, father and mother-in-law William and Lucy Helmink and a brother-in-law Don Helmink.
