Obituary

Mr. Floyd Ray Cunefare, age 82
Of Newton, IL entered into eternal life at 6:18 am on Friday, September 30, 2011 at home surrounded by his daughters.
Funeral services celebrating Floyd's life will be held at 10:00 AM - Wednesday, October 5, 2011
at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, IL with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2011at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. In loving memory of Floyd, memorials may be made to Jasper Post #20 American Legion or Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.
Floyd was born March 22, 1929 in Gila, Illinois, the son of Arthur O. and Eugenia (Reisner) Cunefare. He married Lulu Ann Moomaw on December 5, 1953. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2010.
Floyd farmed and worked for P.O. Baker Bins servicing area grain farmers. He later worked for Rex Vault and then for the Prairie Chicken Sanctuary in rural Jasper County. Floyd served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict spending his tour of duty in Korea. He was a Jasper County Board Member for 10 years and one of the founders of the Wade Fire Protection District serving as a trustee for 31 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #20 and Masonic Lodge #216 both in Newton. Floyd and his wife were members of the Prairie Twirlers square dancing group and the Hi-Ho Saddle Club. Floyd and his wife enjoyed traveling in their camper during the winter months working as volunteers at Choke Canyon State Park in Three Rivers, Texas. Floyd also enjoyed tinkering, playing cards and fishing. He was a master at telling jokes and stories to amuse his friends and family.
Floyd is survived by his daughters, Linda (Bill) Michl of Newton, IL; Beverly (David) Smith and Cheryl (Mike) Custer both of Springfield, IL and Vicky (Ron) Woods of Newton, IL. 9 grandchildren, Erin, Travis, Stephanie, Matt, Julie, Holly, Adam, Adam R., and Jessica and 16 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Wyatt, Zachary, Micah, Mia, Cole, Sienna, Adelyn, Braeden, Avery, Halle, Jovie, Macy, Hayden, and William. His sister, Karel Lambird, of Greely, CO and beloved pet, Molly, also survives him.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Freeman, Glenn, Arlen, Noel, Elmer, Arthur, Jerry, and sisters, Norma Sowers, Eva Brooks Newlin, Mary Fritz and infant twin sisters.
