Galen Campbell passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Olney. He was born November 23, 1936, in Wayne County (Clay City). He was raised by his grandparents John and Cynthia Campbell and his mother Ethel.
On July 16, 1957, he married his true love Clara Mae Goble and together they raised seven children. Galen proudly served in the United States Air Force and the United States Army National Guard for a combined 23 ½ years. In addition to his service, he worked and retired from General Telephone Electric Company. In his spare time, he loved combining his analytical and math skills with his carpentry knowledge to renovate homes. He was a long-time member of the Church of God, American Legion and Military Retired Association. Unwavering work ethics, love for his country, faith and dedication to his family was Galen's legacy and is the greatest inheritance that he passed on to his children.
Gus is survived by six children: Terri (Kenny) Campbell of Evansville; Bobby (Peggy) Campbell of Olney; Roy (Jeannie) Campbell of St. Cloud, Florida; Penny (Scott) Campbell-Henry of Olney; Cindy (Jimmy) Campbell-Taylor of St. Augustine, Florida; Jamie Campbell of Melbourne, Florida and a total of 47 grand and great grandchildren; one sister Ida Biggerstaff of Olney.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara, daughter Julie, his mother Ethel, grandparents John and Cynthia and brother Richard.
Visitation will be from 10 AM – 12 PM (NOON) on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM (NOON). Burial will be at Calhoun Cemetery in Calhoun. Pastor Mike Baker will be officiating and assisted by the Richland County Veteran's Organization.
