Obituary
George Earl Salyers, age 75
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 6:40 AM – Friday, July 31, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Monday, August 3, 2015 at the funeral home. In loving memory of George, memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
George was born on January 21, 1940 in Newton, Illinois the son of Burton and Bessie (Stanley) Salyers. He married Rosemary Coon on January 30, 1975 and she survives.
George was a welder and worked for P.O. Baker equipment and Warfel Welding in Newton, Illinois. In later years he was self-employed and did custom welding in the area.
George was a member of the Rose Hill Community Church, National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Assocaiton.
George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping, gardening and making his own long bows for hunting.
George is survived by: Wife of 40 years – Rosemary Salyers of Newton, Illinois Children – Mark Salyers of Matagorda, Texas; Michael Salyers of Mattoon, Illinois; Carolyn Mooday of Newton, Illinois; Betty (Carl, Jr.) Glidewell of Jewett, Illinois and Robert (Debbie) Cox of Casey, Illinois
Brothers and sisters – Gene (Ann) Salyers of Henderson, Kentucky; Richard (Carol Ann) Salyers of Flora, Illinois; Linda (Steve) Meyer of Wheeler, Illinois; Doug Salyers of St. Louis, Missouri and Stephanie Salyers of St. Louis, Missouri Sister-in-law – Cressie Salyers of Newton, Illinois
George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Stella Salyers and brother John W. Salyers.
