Mr. George Norbert Sheridan, age 88
Of rural West Liberty, IL passed away at 1:17 AM – Thursday, January 26, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Monday, January 30, 2012 at the St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ste. Marie, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM – Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the church and 1 hour before the mass. George Norbert was born on February 22, 1923 in Jasper County, IL the son of Andrew and Anne (Spitzer) Sheridan. He married Melba Rose Menke on October 26, 1946 and she preceded him in death on July 15, 1986. He later married Mary Bailey on April 27, 1991 and she survives.
Norbert was a lifelong farmer and a lifelong member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1704; Olney Elks; Jasper County Farm Bureau and a member of the Jasper County Soil and Water Conservation District. He had served on the Ste. Marie School Board; Ste. Marie Levee District and St. Mary's Parrish Council.
Norbert enjoyed woodworking, mowing, gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family especially the grandchildren. Norbert is survived by: Wife of 20 years – Mary Sheridan of West Liberty, IL. 1 Daughter – Janeth (Mark) Hartrich of Newton, IL 3 Grandchildren – Kristie (Chad) Cunningham of Navarre, FL; Brian Hartrich of Newton, IL and Craig (Amy) Hartrich of Newton, IL. 2 Great Grandchildren – Reid and Cecelia Cunningham. 3 Step Children – Lisa (Ben) Weiler of Claremont, IL; Mary Anne (Chad) Wissel of Albion, IL and Monte Scranton of Owensboro, KY. 9 Step Grandchildren – Megan (Patrick) Connely of St. Louis, MO; Michelle Weiler of Olney, IL; Rachel (Josh) Payne of Olney, IL; Ashley Marks of Albion, IL; Bailey Wissel of Albion, IL; Hannah Wissel of Albion, IL; Sgt. Monty (Tasha) Scranton of Oak Grove, KY; Rebecca (Chris) Armstrong of Utica, KY and D. Riley (Joy) Scranton of Owensboro, KY. 8 Step Great Grandchildren and 2 Sisters – Dorothy (Leland) Woods of Newton, IL and LaVaun Nix of West Liberty, IL.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Emily Hartrich, wife Melba Rose Sheridan, half sister Geneva Swortfiger and 2 half brother Lorraine and Leonard Sheridan. He will dearly missed by his family and friends.
