George Alan Young, age 97, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Evansville, Indiana passed away at 2:50 AM - Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Richland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Olney, Illinois.
Funeral Services for George will be held at 11:00 AM - Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Olney, Illinois, with Pastor Paul Goss officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM - Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Burial will be held at the Twin Cemetery in Gentryville, Indiana. In loving memory of George, memorials may be made to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com .
George Alan Young, was born on January 28, 1926 in Normal , Illinois, the son of William Robert and Mattie (Yount) Young. George served his country in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Kaskaskia during World War II. He worked at Bunny Bread in Evansville, Indiana. He married Betty Byers (Polk) in 1966. George was a wonderful husband to her and her six children. Upon Betty's passing in 2003 he moved to Olney. He was known as the "Famous peanut butter balls Grandpa". George sold $1.00 bags at Rural King in Olney for many years. He will be remembered for his wit and jokes. George called Emerald Glen home and enjoyed dominoes with his friends. He was a lifetime member of the Olney VFW and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Olney, Illinois. He will be missed by all of us because he was the Dad that Didn't have to be but he was our DAD.
George is survived by-
Children - Faye (Wayne) Harrison of Wildwood, Florida; Gary (Janine) Young of Evansville, Indiana; Debbie (Sam) Stevens of Evansville, Indiana; Rita (Terry) Simmons of Evansville, Indiana and Teresa (Chuck) Topper of Mt. Vernon, Indiana
Grandchildren - Brian (April) Harrison; Brandi (David) Foster; Gariann Robinson; Andrae (Lori) Stevens; Corey (Stacey) Stevens; Timothy Stevens; Jason Persinger and Daniel (Erica) Persinger
21 Great-grandchildren 1 Great-great grandchild
Sister- Mavis Farmer; Brother Fred (Bonnie) Young
Several of nieces and nephews also survive
George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Larry Polk, brothers Donny Young, Wayne Young, Billy Young and sister Wilma Harris.
