Georgiana Louise Schackmann, age 86, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 1:25 PM - Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Saturday, November 17, 2018, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the Mass, at the church. In loving memory of Georgiana, memorials may be made to St. Thomas School Sports Program. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Georgiana was born on March 8, 1932, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter Louis and Cecilia (Nix) Bigard. She married the love of her life, Loren M. Schackmann on October 21, 1950, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2009. There were married just short of 60 years.
Georgiana loved life and was full of love and smiles for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and would provide a feast for everyone to share. She was a dedicated Mom and Grandma, who attended every activity possible. She didn't know a stranger as she always welcomed everyone she met.
Georgiana worked for almost 30 years at the local IGA in Newton, Illinois. She loved helping customers and greeted them with a warm smile every time. Her checkout line was always long with people, because she was loved by so many. She always thought of others and never herself.
Georgiana was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, reading and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Georgiana is survived by:
Children – Jane Wehlitz Strole (husband Mark) of Montrose, Colorado; Rick Schackmann (wife Jackie), Gail Tipsword and Linda Scott (husband Brad) all of Newton, Illinois.
Son-in-law – Tom Lueken of Sharpsburg, Georgia
Grandchildren – Jessica Lueken Young (husband Brandon); Jennifer Lueken Vocca (husband Joe); Lindsay Lueken Nelson (Jermaine); Michael Bergbower (Emily Ochs); Katie Bergbower (Chad Bierman); Scott Schackmann (wife Jessica); Tyler Schackmann; Joanna Tipsword Jones (Blake); Nikki Tipsword (Dani Eastman); Brandon Scott (Kristin Henry) and Trevor Scott (wife Keely).
Great Grandchildren – Gavin Young, Evan Young, Harper Young, JT Vocca, Dylan Vocca, Cameron Nelson, Maxwell Nelson, Austin Bush, Wade Schackmann, Halle Schackmann, Gunner Scott and Letty Scott.
Sisters - Yvonne Winters of North Carolina; Marilyn Lehrer of Texas and Shirley Ackeret of California
Several nieces and nephews also survive
Georgiana was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children Susan Schackmann, David Schackmann and Mary Schackmann Lueken, brothers Bob Bigard, Jim Bigard and Joe Bigard, sisters Norma LaCava and Janet Varga.
