Gregory Springer Dennis, age 79, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 2:45 AM – Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Helia Health Care in Newton, Illinois.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM – Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. A service will follow with Rev Amy Jeffries and John Davis officiating. In loving memory of Greg, memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church. Gregory, better known as "Greg" was born on September 12, 1944, in Robinson, Illinois, the son of Geza A. and Josephine (Springer) Dennis. He graduated from Robinson High School with the Class of 1962. Following high school, he attended Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, Illinois. There he was on the track team and the swim team for 4 years. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1966.
Greg was united in marriage to Marcea Webb on June 10, 1967, at Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, Illinois.
Greg taught 5th and 6th grade for a few years and coached basketball and track for 4 years. He then went to work at the Newton Power Station and retired after many years of service.
Greg is survived by:
Wife of 57 years – Marcea Dennis of Newton, Illinois
Daughters – Monica (Kent) Murphy of Greenfield, Indiana and Melanie (Steve) Simon of Frankfort, Illinois
Grandchildren – Hannah Ritz of Nashville, Tennessee; Jonah Ritz of Austin, Texas; Mia Simon of Frankfort, Illinois; Macklyn Simon of Frankfort, Illinois; Liam Murphy of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Sean Murphy of Indianapolis, Indiana
Sisters – Tamara Hippensteel of Galesburg, Illinois and Pamela Miller of Atlanta, Georgia
Brother-in-law – Ed (Kim) Webb of Newton, Illinois
Sister-in-law – Patti (Walter) Litchfield of Newton, Illinois
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Mary and Earl Webb, niece Sherri Drauden and longtime friend Mike Connor.
