Harold Michael "Butch" Meinhart, age 91
of Dieterich, Illinois passed away at 6:16 AM – Friday, August 21, 2015 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Island Grove, Illinois with Fr. Joseph Carlos celebrating mass. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois with full military rites by the Dieterich American Legion Post #628. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM – Monday, August 24, 2015 at the church with wake service at 6:30 PM and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Butch, memorials may be made to Teutopolis ARC. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.
Butch was born on June 17, 1924 in Island Grove, Illinois the son of Leo F. and Margaret Elizabeth (Garwood) Meinhart. He married Theresa Meyer September 2, 1950 at St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church in Green Creek, Illinois.
Butch was a member of the Twentysixers Teamsters and owned his own company, HM Meinhart Trucking. He served his country in the United States Army as a Corporal and was one of the first selectees from Jasper County to be sent to the Armed Forces under the Peacetime Draft Law. He was a member of the Dieterich Commercial Club, Dieterich American Legion Post #628, and the St. Isidore Parish. He was a retired Dieterich volunteer firefighter and served on the Dieterich Village Board for over 20 years.
Butch was most known in Dieterich for cruising around on his golf cart, often times with his dog. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and playful, joking banter with his wife. Butch was admired by his 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. For many years Butch played taxi for his grandchildren to and from school. Butch loved to go up town and chat with friends at the coffee shop, gardening, and woodworking.
Butch is survived by his wife of 64 years Theresa; sons: Jim (Marsha) Meinhart, John (Susan) Meinhart, Tom (Linda) Meinhart, Mark (special friend Shelia Reed) Meinhart, Mike (Jami) Meinhart, Gary Meinhart, Jerry (Cindy) Meinhart, Lee (Linda) Meinhart, all of Dieterich, Illinois; daughters: Linda (Keith) McKinney of Montrose, Illinois and Mary (Bud) Ervin of Dieterich, Illinois; sisters: Bernice Bolander of Newton, Illinois and Betty (Ray) Kennedy of Tuscola, Illinois and brother: Don (Loretta) Meinhart of Montrose, Illinois.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Lou Meinhart, grandchildren Rodney Lee Meinhart and Robert Harold Meinhart, brother Frank Meinhart and sister Lucille Grimm.
