Obituary

Harriett (Walters) Huff, age 80, of Olney, passed away at 6:58 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her residence in Olney.

Visitation will be Monday, June 13 from 10-11 AM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Albion. Clint Smallwood will be officiating.

Harriett was born on August 11, 1935 in Albion, the daughter of Harry and Blanche (Kelsey) Walters. She later married James Cates in 1955. She later married Edgar Huff in Albion on November 19, 1960. He preceded her in death in November 2003.

She worked as a cook at Richland Memorial Hospital for 20 years or more. She was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Olney and was a member of the Blanket Brigade. She enjoyed crocheting, watching her children and grandchildren play softball and baseball, gardening, cooking, and watching humming birds. She was famous for her strawberry pie and chocolate sheet cake. She enjoyed being outdoors and in nature and watching the Game Show Network. She was a volunteer at the Richland County Senior Citizen Center and Immanuel United Methodist Church serving Thanksgiving meals. She loved her children and always had their best interest at heart, but wasn't afraid to discipline them. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Harriett is survived by her 2 sons, Steve Cates, and fiancé Sherry Bootman of Flora, and John Huff, and wife Lynn of Pacific, Missouri; 2 daughters, Ruth Totten and husband Dan of Calhoun, and Evelyn Huff of Henderson, Kentucky; 2 brothers, Wilbur Dean Walters of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Donald Walters, and wife Venness of Charleston; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Blanche Walters, son Daniel Huff, 2 infant sisters, Marilyn Kay and Rowena Maxine, 2 brothers Edward Walters and Glendale "Tubby" Walters and sister Barbara Holeman.

Memorials can be sent to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois in memory of Harriett (Walters) Huff.
