Helen Louise Luke, age 97
of Greenup, Illinois passed away at 1:48 AM – Monday, August 3, 2015 at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center in Greenup, Illinois surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Meyer Funeral Home (formerly Bishop Funeral Home) in Greenup, Illinois with Pastor Rick Emrich officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell South Cemetery in Hazel Dell, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In loving memory of Helen, memorials may be made to the Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center 300 Marietta St Greenup, Illinois 62428. Helen Louise was born on May 6, 1918 in the Cumberland County, Illinois the daughter of Thomas and Flora (Evans) Tipsword. She married Paul Lawrence Luke on December 12, 1935 and he preceded her in death in December 1978.
Helen was employed at Ettlebrick Shoe Company for several years. She also worked at the Martinque in Greenup, Illinois and the Brass and Glass Gift Shop in Casey, Illinois. She also had been a cook at the Hazel Dell School cafeteria and was a Mary Kay consultant.
Helen was a member of the Church of God in Hazel Dell, Illinois. She loved to sing, read, crochet and most of all spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by: Daughters – Sandra Warfel of Mattoon, Illinois and Kay (husband John) Strange of Hazel Dell, Illinois Grandchildren – Tammy (James) Eads of Mattoon, Illinois; Dorinda (Rick) Phillips of Casey, Illinois; Brad (Sherri) Strange of Martinsville, Illinois; Nancy (Kurt) Wellbaum of Springfield, Illinois; Brian (Tammi) Warfel of Mattoon, Illinois; Mark (Tina) Warfel of Lincoln, Illinois and Doug (Kathy) Strange of Hazel Dell, Illinois. Great Grandchildren – Joseph (Jamie) Wellbaum of Springfield, Illinois; Beth Wellbaum of Arcola, Illinois; Luke Eads of Champaign, Illinois; Clay, Lance and Emma Warfel of Mattoon, Illinois; Samantha Eads of Mattoon, Illinois; Cassandra, Logan and Kyle Warfel of Lincoln, Illinois; Jamie (Chris) LaPlante of Aurora, Colorado; Kacie (Brandon) Moore of Terre Haute, Indiana and Kayla Collier of Casey, Illinois; Bailey (Andy) Kemper of Martinsville, Illinois; Ashbie Phillips of Casey, Illinois; Lucas Donhou of Casey, Illinois; Garrett and Waylon Strange of Hazel Dell, Illinois; Sydney Strange of Martinsville, Illinois. Great Great Grandchildren – Aleah and Bradlee Kemper of Martinsville, Illinois; Octiva and Tenzia Collier of Casey, Illinois and Brooke Wellbaum of Springfield, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Donald Glenn Warfel, two infant granddaughters, sisters Ione Ferris, Geraldine Edwards and brothers Cleo Tipsword and Richard Tipsword.
