Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Shew, age 91
Of rural Newton, IL passed away at 11:05 PM - Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM – Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Richard Shoot officiating. Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In loving memory of Helen, memorials may be made to the Honey Cemetery or the Bogota Church of Christ.
Helen was born on August 3, 1920 in Jasper County, IL the daughter of Tracey Oliver and Ada (Gambriel) Crouse. She married William L. Shew on September 26, 1939 and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1983.
Helen was a homemaker and farmers wife. She was a member of the Bogota Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering and gardening.
Helen is survived by:
4 Children – Barbara (Robert) Gill of Cisne, IL
Larry (Janet) Shew of Casey, IL
Kenneth (Cathy) Shew of Newton, IL
Rex Shew of Newton, IL
12 Grandchildren 20 Great Grandchildren
Sister-in-law – Delphine Crouse of Newton, IL
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Teresa Shew and 4 brothers Harbin, Eli, Ernest and Merril Crouse.
