Henrietta Ellen Hensley, age 79
of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 4:15 PM – Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Celebration of Life services for Henrietta will be held at 10:00 AM – Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Gospel Assembly Church 509 South Merchant Street Effingham, Illinois with Bro. Bob Peach officiating. In loving memory of Henrietta, memorials may be made to the Gospel Assembly Church c/o Charles Van Hensley, Sr. 510 West Richland Street Effingham, Illinois 62401. Private burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Henrietta was born on July 25, 1936 in Jasper County, Illinois the daughter of Scott and Sarah (Wilson) Whalen. She married Charles Van Hensley, Sr. on July 30, 1977 and he survives.
Henrietta and Van owned and operated the People's Choice in Newton for many years. They also owned This, That and More a resale shop which they ran for over 20 years in Rantoul, Effingham and Clay City, Illinois.
Henrietta was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Effingham, Illinois and the Air Force Sergeant's Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, gathering walnuts and persimmons, working puzzles, sewing and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Henrietta is survived by: Husband of 38 years – Charles Van Hensley, Sr. of Effingham, Illinois Children – Edward Utley of Mason, Illinois; Sherry Herbel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Michael (Lisa) Utley of Punta Gorda, Florida; Roslin Anderson of Rantoul, Illinois; Dreama (Mike) Doolittle of Avon, Indiana; Charles (Rhonda) Hensley, Jr. of Rantoul, Illinois; Dennis (Gaye) Utley of Effingham, Illinois and Rebecca Ashley of Effingham, Illinois. 27 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and 1Great Great Grandchild Sisters – Hazel Conover of Hammond, Indiana and Helen Birk of Flora, Illinois
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, son Andy Utley, brothers Herschel and Herman Whalen and sister Hester Birch.
