Hermena Catherine Medernach, age 82, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 3:30 PM – Monday, July 10, 2023, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Parrish Center in Wendelin, Illinois, with Fr. Steven Beatty, celebrating mass. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM – Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Parrish Center and there will also be visitation 30 minutes before mass, on Tuesday. In loving memory of Hermena, memorials may be made to the National Lymphedema Network Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Hermena was born on Christmas Day (December 25th) 1940, the daughter of Henry and Henrietta (Ochs) Deimel. She married Gerald J. "Sam" Medernach on June 21, 1969, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois.
Hermena graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1958. She worked at E.R. Moore Cap and Gown Factory in Newton, for over 50 years, as a seamstress.
Hermena was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and spending the winters in Florida. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own grandchildren.
Hermena is survived by:
Husband of 54 years – Gerald J. "Sam" Medernach of Dieterich, Illinois
Son – Jeffrey A. Medernach (Denise Roecker) of Groveland, Illinois
Grandchildren – Jordan Medernach (Emily Maez), Janelle (Blake) Esker, Jaclyn Medernach (fiancé Dan Turgeon)
Brothers – Herb (Martha) Deimel of Ingraham, Illinois; Harold (Jeannie) Deimel of Newton, Illinois; and Howard Deimel of Clay City, Illinois
Hermena was preceded in death by her parents, brother Herman Deimel and a sister Helen Crouse.
