Obituary
James F. Davis of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 12:49 PM – Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois with Bro. Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Elliottstown, Illinois with full military rites by the Dieterich American Legion Post #628. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Friday, January 1, 2016 at the funeral home. In loving memory of James, memorials may be made to the Saddle Mountain Christian Mission.
James was born on February 22, 1937 in Effingham, Illinois the son of Russell Gilbert and Mabel (Percival) Davis. He married Marilyn S. Higgins on June 7, 1960 in Dieterich, Illinois and she preceded him in death on November 12, 2012.
James retired from Fedder's in Effingham after 35 years of service. He also farmed for many years.
James served his country in the United States Army from March 29, 1960 until his honorable discharge in March 18, 1963.
James was a member of the Winterrowd Christian Church and a former member of the Elliottstown Church of Christ until it closed in 1994. He enjoyed working on antique tractors and radios. He loved to read, especially the Bible.
James is survived by:
Sons – Kevin (Sandy) Davis of Dieterich, Illinois; Tim (Courtney) Davis of Louisville, Illinois and Kelly (Loretta) Davis of Dieterich, Illinois
Grandchildren – Jimmy, Melissa (Fiancé Brady), Isaac, Aaron, Eddie, Crawford, Kylee and Khloe
Brother – Kent Davis of Pekin, Illinois
Special Friend – Christina Mullens of Flora, Illinois
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters Judy Wolff and Rosalie Keller.
