James Frederick "Jim" Miller, age 77
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 8:01 PM - Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Saturday, December 19, 2015, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois with full military rites. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the mass at the church. In loving memory of Jim, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas School. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Jim was born on September 23, 1938, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Frederick "Freddie" and Clara (Vise) Miller and Charlotte (Kinsel) Kolb. He married Theresa (Mette) Miller and she survives.
Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963.
Jim worked with his sons in the family business of Miller Excavating. He started working in the excavating business in the 1950's under Orville Collins. Moving dirt was his passion. If he wasn't working, he was spending time with his family and friends. Jim knew no stranger, would speak to anyone, and made friends everywhere. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and AJ Foyt.
Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa Miller, of Newton, Illinois; mother, Clara Miller of Robinson, Illinois; his children, Beth (Tom) Georgiou of Mahomet, Illinois; Chris (Mary Carmen) Miller of Lima, Peru; Justin (Sara) Miller of Dieterich, Illinois; Travis (Courtney) Miller and Jamie (Eric) Blake both of Newton, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Cynthia) Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Deborah Kull, Anne (John) Henderson, both of Robinson, Illinois and Clara J. "C.J." Harvey of West York, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, his mother, Charlotte, and two brothers-in-law, Frank Kull and Greg "Stub" Wright.
