Janet Marie Brooks, age 80

February 28, 1943 – January 31, 2024

Janet Marie Brooks, age 80, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 1:15 AM – Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Janet's life will be held at 12:00 PM – Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Mike Knepper officiating.  The burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time.  In loving memory of Janet, memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.

Janet was born on February 28, 1943, in Newton, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Gertrude "Gertie" (Dhom) Guerrettaz.  She married Maurice Thomas Brooks on August 1, 1959, at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, and he preceded her in death on September 4, 2020.

Janet was a member of Central Christian Church in Newton.  She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Janet is survived by:

Children – Patti (Ronnie) Ochs, Tony (Geri) Brooks, and Julie Bierman (Ed Shamhart) all of Newton, Illinois

Grandchildren – Lindsey (Jason) Hermann, Ryan Ochs, Marcus Brooks, and Kelsey (Ryan) Taylor

Great Grandchildren – Allie Hermann, Brooks Hermann, Blake Hermann, Emma Brooks, Ada Taylor, Elise Taylor, and Kate Taylor

Brother-in-law – Bob Brooks of Newton, Illinois

Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice; in-laws Ruth and Glen Gorman, Kay White, Ralph and Roseann Brooks, and Anita Brooks; granddaughter-in-law Buffy Brooks.
