Jeffrey Alan "Jake" Whalen, age 53
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 7:40 PM – Friday, August 7, 2015 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Jake's life will be held at 11:00 AM – Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois with Rick Britton and Rev. Steve Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00 AM - Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the church. In loving memory of Jake, memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Jeffrey Alan "Jake" was born on March 17, 1962 in Olney, Illinois the son of Herman Edward and Marcella C. (Fear) Whalen.
Jake was a graduate of the Class of 1980 from Newton Community High School in Newton, Illinois.
Jake worked for the Jasper County Sheriff's office for several years as a correctional officer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois. He enjoyed showing his Plymouth Roadrunner car; was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia and enjoyed traveling with his friend Steve Ruble. Jake's friends, Jerry McDaniel, Chuck Beavers and Bob Baker were always there to lend a hand or share friendship that has last a lifetime.
Jake is survived by: Mother – Marcella Whalen of Newton, Illinois Sisters – Joyce D. (Fred) Correll of Dundas, Illinois and Janet D. (Chris) Yocum of Jewett, Illinois Girlfriend – Jessie Hale of Newton, Illinois Step son – Leon Blair of Newton, Illinois Nephews – Bill Loy (Special Friend Rachl Rabideau) of Newton, Illinois; Jess Burley of Crossville, Illinois and Scott Burley of Olney, Illinois Nieces – Kara Yocum (Special Friend Jesse Anderson) of Jewett, Illinois and Jennifer (Jedidah) Adam of Neoga, Illinois Several great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also survive. Special pet – Spike the weiner dog
Jake was preceded in death by his father, grandparents Scott and Sarah Whalen, George and Alene Fear; nephew Thomas Yocum and great nephew Alton Jones.
