Jerry Burgener, age 71 of Olney, passed away at 4:10 PM on Friday, March 29th, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital Main Campus in Evansville, Indiana.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will on Thursday, April 4th, at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home. The Reverend Tonya Powell will be the officiating minister and full military rites will be ministered by the Richland County Veterans Organization at the graveside. Burial will be in Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney.
Jerry was born on August 8th, 1941 in Olney, the son of Harold Burgener and Edna (Whitt) Burgener. He later married Lana Tucker on December 31st, 1964 in Waynesville, Missouri. She survives.
Jerry was of the Christian faith, worked for his father in the oilfield for many years. He was a Vietnam era veteran serving three years in the U.S. Army. Upon his separation from the military, Jerry joined the American Legion where he served as a past Post Commander of the Sailor Springs chapter, and upon his return to Olney, he became a faithful member of American Legion Post 30 and filled many roles in that chapter. He was a faithful member of post 30 military honors program and attended many funerals of his comrades. At the time of his death, he was the post Sergeant-at-Arms. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lana Burgener of Olney; mother Edna Geier of Olney; son Jerry Burgener Jr. of Olney; daughters Kathleen Voigt, and her husband Steven of Noble, Danielle Swinson, and her husband Tony of Noble, Cyrena Fickas, and her husband Darrell of Cisne; sister Sandra Wyatt, and her husband Jack of Dundas; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Burgener and brother Eugene Burgener.
