Johnnie Dexter Edgington, 77 of Calhoun, passed away at 4:39 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Celebration of Life service will be at 4 PM on Saturday, March 6th at Calhoun Christian Church in Calhoun. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Johnnie was born on April 23, 1943 in Wayne County, the son of Kenneth Doyle and Jennie May (Duke) Edgington. He married Linda Attebery on May 2, 1965 in Fairfield. She survives.

He was in the United States Army as a Private First Class. He worked at Champion Laboratory in Albion for many years. He was a member of Calhoun Christian Church in Calhoun. He was also a member of Odd Fellows. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, doing small engine repair and most of all he loved being a grandpa and a father.

Johnnie is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Linda Edgington of Calhoun; son Johnnie Edgington Jr. and wife Mary of Calhoun; daughter Jennie Edgington of Calhoun; brother Dwight Edgington and wife Betty of Xenia; sister Hope Jones of Effingham; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Jennie Edgington, son Philip Edgington, great-grandson Jordan Edgington and 2 brothers Delbert and Dereck Edgington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the family to help pay for final expenses in memory of Johnnie D. Edgington.
