Joseph M. Steckler Jr., age 70 of Olney, departed this life at 8:00 A.M., on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at his residence in Olney.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 3rd, from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 11A.M. Reverend Brett Best will be officiating.
Joseph was born on April 6, 1942 the son of Joseph and Madge (Martin) Steckler in Effingham, Illinois. He later married Tamatha Hayes on September 12, 1968. She survives.
He is survived by two daughters Lisa Kittle, and her husband Tony of Dundas; and Teresa Steckler, and long time companion Dan Hataway of Champaign; two grandchildren, Victoria Kittle and Silas Kittle both at home; and one brother Daniel Steckler, and his wife Pat of California. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Madge Steckler.
Joseph was an iron worker for most his adult life and was a member of Iron Workers Union Local #103. He loved racing and spent a lot of time working on stock cars. He especially enjoyed the times he got to help other folks and he loved to sit at McDonald's and drink coffee with his friends. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Cremation rights will be accorded after the Saturday service and in lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to be given to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude's Hospital, or Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.
