Larry Rodney Stockwell, age 76
of rural Wheeler, IL passed away at 7:40PM - Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Funeral services celebrating Larry's life will be held at 10:00 AM – Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Latona Church of Christ in Latona, IL with Nate Hagen, Mike Elliott and Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery in rural Wheeler, IL with a flag presentation. Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 PM – Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the church. In loving memory of Larry, memorials may be made to the Latona Church of Christ building fund. Larry was born on September 11, 1937 in Jasper County, IL the son of Harley and Allene (Lewis) Stockwell. He married Joyce Dobbins on June 8, 1958 at the Latona Church of Church.
Larry graduated from Effingham High School and served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Larry retired from Fedder's in Effingham after many years of service and was a lifelong farmer. As a young man he worked for Lewis House Moving working with his Uncle Bill Lewis.
Larry was a member of the Latona Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by: Wife of 55 years – Joyce Stockwell of Wheeler, IL 4 Children – Jane (Bruce) Elliott of Montrose, IL; Joni (Mike) Elliott of Wheeler, IL; Lori (Mark) Smith of Nashville, TN and Martin (Corina) Stockwell of Corydon, IN 10 Grandchildren – Tony Elliott, Keith (Aubrey) Elliott, Kevin Elliott, Seth Elliott, Cassie Elliott, Jessie Smith, Jeddi Smith, Josiah Smith, Sophi Smith and Gabe Stockwell 1 Great Grandson – Wyatt Elliott
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Buddy and Martin Stockwell.
