Leatha Zuber, 82, of Newton, IL, died peacefully surrounded by her family at 4:06 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the St. Anthony Hospital, Effingham, IL.
She was born April 12, 1930 in Richland County, IL, the daughter of Barney Burgener and Bessie Edith Kesler Burgener. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton and the Ste. Marie American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Leatha married Frederick A. Zuber and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, LaVerne Wilson; her grandson, Joshua Compton; and her great grandson, Gavin Romack.
She is survived by 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Linda) Zuber, Newton, Dave (Terri) Zuber, Newton, James (Carol) Zuber, John (Debbie) Zuber, Newton; 6 daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy (Dave) Sullens, Kilgore, TX, Ginny (Richard) Jones, Ore City, TX, Rose (Gerry) Compton, Shelbyville, IL, Joanne (Allen) Will, Toledo, IL, Ruth Lindley, Newton, and Mary Pool, Olney, IL; her sister, Jessie Daniel, St. Charles, IL; 34 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, IL with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Marie, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2nd at the church. Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2nd at the church. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 3rd at the church preceding the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Group or to the Jasper County Home Front. The Blake – Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton is in charge of arrangements.
